I am thinking of getting a female to add to my tank and I already have a male in there but I dont think I am ready for them to have any babys. Right now he is in a 55 gallon aquarium (one of the older ones that are taller then they are wide) Can I put a male and female together in a enclosure without them mating?

While females can and will resist mating, in almost 20 years of gecko keeping, I've never met a male with self control. Boys and girls together will play, it's rare to find ones who won't.

how many times will they mate in a year and how many eggs will she lay

I read that they can lay from two to ten clutches of 2 eggs per clutch.
This is my first year breeding fatties and I was shocked at how quickly Galaxy has pumped out eggs!!
Its like every 15 days or so?? I found the first clutch 2/17 and just found another clutch 3/6, and she's fat again (her tail still looks good, it was obese before I put the two together) And they can retain sperm, so even if you remove the male its no guarantee that she'll stop laying viable eggs.
Have your incubator set up and ready to go for sure! Or, put a plexiglass divider in the cage so they can't get to each other if you don't want eggs/mating.
I think a 55 is big enough to divide and keep two in, but you'll have to have the temp gradients for them both then.

well that is what i have how do i change that so he will want to breed?
