Default Why is it not a lot of people breed fatties?

I've been searching around online for fat-tailed breeders and I just can't find more than 4-5 websites. You search "leopard gecko for sale" in Google and you get hundreds of hits, but do the same for fatties and nothing.

I know they aren't as prolific as leos, but is there another reason for why you can't find as many breeders? Because they're so darn cute, and the albino strain is just beautiful. So besides maybe the fact that the morphs in fatties are more expensive than leo morphs, I can't really understand why more people don't get into breeding them.

I don't know if this is allowed, but if anyone knows of anyone that does breed them, with a website, you're welcome to send me a private message with the link. It would be greatly appreciated!

thats true the only way you can find more websites is if you spend almost all day on google and kingsnake.com to find fat tailed websites.

I bred my fatties this past year and had a great hatch rate. I don't have a website up for them specifically, as its more of a hobby for me than a business but I do love them and I personally have had much better luck with breeding/raising/keeping them than I have with leos.
I did sell 4 of my 6 hatchlings to very good homes, I held back the other two.
I still have two kids left from this year and I'll see what happens when I breed Galaxy and Burgerbutt this coming year. I'll be sure to post pics and updates!

It's weird that if you google for fatties, you don't even get the huge breeders like urban gecko or JMG. And I can't for the life of me explain why lol.

I hope to get my hands on a couple within the next few months and try my hand at keeping them. I think they are just so darn cute and calm.

sometimes you just have better luck searching 'leopard geckos for sale' and seeing if the sites also breed fat tails. it seems that most big time breeders have started a fat tail collection as they grow in popularity.

and yes, fat tails are very cute and calm... VERY calm at that! all my baby Togo does is eat, sleep, poop, and sleep and sleep and sleep! I hope he gets just a little more active when he's older lol. At least my leos look up at me when I lean over the cage =P

Originally my first gecko was going to be a fattie that had been sitting in a cage at petsmart for mooonths. So cute. But I was still living in the dorms at the time and didn't want to risk getting in trouble over a little gecko (besides, I lived with the roommate from hell who would have ratted me out in a second.) And then I searched everywhere for fat tailed breeders but couldn't find anything, just like now, so I went for leos instead.

But I would really like to have a small collection of them. I'm hoping to have the money to get a couple individuals at the next show in spring.
