Smile Newbie :)

hey guys and gals

First of all im a newbie to AFT, i have previously owned leo's. Anyway, next tuesday im getting my first AFT and i would just like to know what setup, temps, humidity, substrate etc is suitable? I am doing my own research on this and have seen many different points of view on random websites, so i thought what is better that to ask those who have the experience with ATF

we will house our chubby little fella in a wooden vivarium and we know we should have humid hides etc. im curious as to what way you have your setups? i dont want to do anything wrong, as we have been given bad advise in the present and it finished up with our leo having to be euthanised so if you could share your tricks of the trade i would greatly appreciate it

many thanks in advance
Lauren

Thumbs up

First of all: Great choice. African fat tails are awesome geckos, and amazing animals in general
I have mine in a Terrarium, having a temperature between 22°C and 34°C (71°F - 93°F) and a humidity of 50% - 70% during the day, and between 75% and 80% at night. (For breeding, and to care for them right, you have to drop the humidity for two months over winter to 40% -50%, it's to simulate the dry season)
As a substrate I use a mix of Sand/bricked earth (5/1, so it's hard enough for the gecko not to sink in or to eat it when feeding) and coco humus. Also, I have terrarium moss in one part of the terrarium, to keep the humidity where I want it.

AFT's are easy to care for geckos, if you follow some simple rules, but I'm sure you'll make it.

yours,
Fabrizio

Maybe you should ask what he's going to use, before you buy it, and tell us about it. Running a reptile shop doesn't mean he knows about every single type of reptile and how to keep them. (Maybe you're lucky and he DOES know a lot though)
Can't wait to see pictures (I'm a curious person *gg*)

yours,
Fabrizio

hey oh no thats not something to worry about beleive me he knows his stuff and i do trust him! He was the only one who could get my leo to eat when she was sick and when i say i tried, beleive me i did! I do completely trust him, soo many people have told me to go to him, i will post everything anyway as your ideas will be appreciated and they may be better suited to the AFT which at the end of the day is the most important thing

Good for you then. Having a responsible and knowing person to get back to around where you live is important. Good luck with your AFT!

Hi people

Sorry for the delay but he's been a little shy and hiding until yesterday and today, and today I saw him hunting down and eating 2 crickets

He ate them at about 11am which I thought was a little odd but still cool

We called him Fudge because of the obvious.

Here is a few pics of him (Ignore the ugly boyfriend ):

And here's him chillaxing

He's beautiful! I'm just curious, but is he darker in real life? My AFT is this rich deep brown on his banding and my camera makes him look almost tan. Well, good luck with the new little fella! Oh, and the old fella can't be that bad, the new one's sitting on him isn't he?

Very cute boy, nice gecko you got there. What kind of substrate is it you're keeping him on?
