Default African fat-tail pushing moss out of hide

Why is she doing this? They have a few humid hides, with barely damp moss in them and it seems the moss gets pushed out of the 'door' every time I turn around. Is this normal gecko "make the keeper pull out their hair" behavior? Or is there something I should change? I tried giving them "empty" hides, which they refuse to use at all. Is there too much moss in there?

Crazy little lizards.

She may be just rooting around in there and nesting to get comfortable. I have all my leopard gecko and fat tail humid hides done with eco earth which I moisten as necessary. If you put the "door" on the top instead of the side this works well and would probably even work for moss.

Thanks! I tried top openings and they didn't use them, I guess they're too lazy to climb on top. Either that or I need shorter hides! I'll look for shorter containers and just put the bedding back in when she's pushed it out.
Appreciate the reply!

i used 3 3/4" tall by 6-8" tupperwear container with top holes for years with leos and fat-tails and they seemed to all use it lots.. the key is to leave the lid off for a few weeks so they understand what it is... maybe just sit the lid half on half off

Thanks so much for the advice! I will find new hide containers and try leaving the lids off! You rock!
