Metabolic bone disease?
The situation...
After having my male Dezmodeus for a year I decided it was time to get him a companion. I've been hunting around for a female aft and when I finally found one I snatched her up, and now I might be regretting this. When I first saw her in the store she was in a tank with three LARGE, eager, males and there was a ruptured egg in the tank. Well, I went to the counter and asked they said all they had were males. I got the clerk to check it out and sure enough "he" was a she. I told them to put her in the back and I would probably be coming back the following day to buy her. I decided to get her thinking that since the one egg was so small she probably wouldn't be having any more and I could grow her a bit before deciding if I wanted to breed her. WRONG!!! She is gravid with two more eggs and is showing signs of metabolic, under bite, lack of interest in moving food, and a gunky eye. I've started her on chicken babyfood with calcium mixed in and will be offering her this twice a day. She has her humid hide, hot and cool hides, access to water and is in a quiet part of the house.
What I'm asking...
I've kept, bred, and rehabbed several spiecies of reptile and am no stranger to the work required but I have to ask, how often do AFTs come back from MBD? I'm already pretty attached to her and even if she were to loose the gunky eye and have no potential for breeding I would still seriously consider keeping her just as a pet. I've only had her for two days now but if no one has had an AFT come back from MBD I will be taking her back to the store. Please help me out before I get any more attached to this charming little lady.
