Default Very thin rescued AFT help and advice needed

Hi I'm new to this forum and also gecko keeping all together I'm more of a bearded dragon and chame lover.. We got an AFT off a guy I rescued my latest chame off.. I know very little about fat tails and what I do know is offs the web... But I know it doesn't take an expert to notice a thin gecko when u see one... I have pictures I'll try to upload. Apparently she's WC and about a year old but she's tiny and you can see her spine and her pelvic poking out.. The guy we got her off said she's a fussy eater and only hand feeds.... Last night she took 3 small locust I put in her viv and seemed to love the hunt.. I just need some advice on what I should be feeding her to get her to a good weight I don't want to just fatten her up I want her healthly how ever long it can take... I'm also worried about her viv he had her on saw dust... Which worried me I've since change it to the only thing I had available which is wood chippings... I would like to know the best substrate and also heat set up for her if its poss.... Hope someone can help! Thanks

Your best bet is to google "fat tail care" or "leopard gecko care". Their care is similar to that of leopard geckos except that they need more humidity. I keep mine on coco fiber but others use paper towel. The care sheets can tell you more than anything I could put in a post. If she eats on her own and doesn't gain weight she may have parasites and would need a vet visit.

I have 2 leopard geckos - very similar to AFTs, but definitely get a care booklet so you'll know all the proper care routines. Im a pretty new owner too, and one of my leopard was pretty thin when i bout it (dont know the sex yet).
Two quick suggestions I have - 1. put the AFT on paper towels. Since its so thin that will probably be the easiest thing for it to crawl around on without hurting itself at all. and 2. appropiately sized crickets are a great feeding choice, but also slip in a waxworm once or twice a week to help it gain a little weight. Remember not to feed it waxworms too often though, because they can become "addicted" to them and only ever want to eat waxworms.
Good Luck!
