I have my terrerium at the required 86 degrees but he still refuses to come out of the warm side hiding place as opposed to my much younger leo that spends equal amounts of time in either hide is it the temperature or him?

Fat tails are much more likely to stay in their hides no matter what the conditions. I rarely see mine except during feeding. I don't know if you mean air temp or floor temp. Floor temp should be in the low 90's and I don't worry much about air temp.
