I was just curious about the castelnaui for all you keepers out there. How handleable are these geckos? Are they skittish and drop their tails easily or do they tolerate handling very well? How big do they get? I have seen a few pics of some high orange animals with huge fat tails and they are definitely a stunning gecko. -Derek

Hi Derek,

i think no gecko like it, when we pick them up! When I must catch my geckos I use a box to do that. Castelanuis could be very quick and I don`t want to hurt them. That`s why Im so careful. I keep Oeduras for 4 years and their never drop their tail.
A couple of them could increase to 18 cm / 7.1 inch.

Here is a picture of my biggest male

I've had them since '93 and not one specimen has ever dropped its tail. I will always have a colony of O. castelnaui. They are so vocal.

Derek---

My Oedura castelnaui don't seem to mind being held!! I have 5.4 of them including one captive bred which hatched in October 2002. They seem to be a very calm gecko. The more you handle them the tamer they get. At about 1 year old they might be a bit skittish, but hold them a while and you will see. Like others have replied, none of mine have ever dropped their tails.
