Hi. I am planning on buying a morning gecko an i was wondering if ESU JUNGLE MIX would be an OK substrate or not. It contains sterilized virgin organic soil, fine grain sand, vermiculite, peat moss, orchid bark and green tree moss.

Thanks,
Angie

Hi Angie---

I have bred Lepidodactylus lugubris, mourning geckos, now for 17 years. Garden variety peat moss works just fine as a substrate. If you want to try something with superior moisture retaining capabilities, buy a brick of cocopeat fiber to use for the substrate. A large pothos will provide hiding spots for these personable geckos! As long as your lows do not drop below 68 F, mourning geckos require no additional heat.

For a care sheet I wrote, check out the Global Gecko Association web site @ www.gekkota.com.
