Its not necessisary but its always a benefit.

Angie---

Most of my mourning geckos share my western exposure bedroom. (I like how they chirp at night, sometimes creating quite the chorus!) They are in glass vivaria with Four Paws aluminum screened tops. I imagine some beneficial light reaches them as the room is bright with a skylight and all. On the cages themselves I use no additional lighting/heating since the room itself provides adequate warmth. As you may know, mourning geckos are extremely prolific. They only "need" partners for "comfort", not to make babies!

Angie---

I hope that you really enjoy your pair of mourning geckos! Are these your first geckos? They were for me. I still have one of the original three mourning geckos I "WC" inside a condo in Kauai. She will turn 17 yo in just a couple weeks. I "set" her birthday for August 15th.
