Thanks for the reply Stefan, Have you found many other differences btween c. aberrans and c. ciliaris such as coloration?

for me a point to difference them is the coloration and the red eye rings ( at the aberrans ), but i think also the locale brings some difference within the two forms.
in some books is written that the tubercles and granules on the tail scales are different between them, so that should be also a point to difference them.

Do all your aberrans have the red eyes Stefan?

yes all of them have this strong red eye rings, but also the fresh born ciliaris ciliaris have a bit red eye rings, but the fade more when they get older. i will not point that the eye rings are a main reason to differnce them, but for my experience is that only my aberrans have that deep red in the eyes.

Thanks again Stefan, may I ask what size vivariums you keep your aberrans in and if you have a photo of their set-ups please?

i have no picture to show for now, but the size is 30 cm x 30 cm x 40 cm high. i keep all my strophs seperate in such tanks ( exept hatchlings and juvies they have smaller tanks ). breeding pairs i keep in 40 cm x 40 cm x 50 cm high.
they do well in those tanks.
