View Full Version : N.Amyae - help sexing some 8 month olds

I got these little sweeties from GeckoDan a while back. I really can't tell what they are. I know the pics aren't great, but it was the best I could do! Don't know why some pics are resized and some aren't? Anyone able to help sex these little ones?

I am thinking female on top and male below. Thankfully they aged another month in the time it took for the pics to come through and that helped a bit. They have grown well.

Yes, they are fat little so and so's!! Never turn down a cricket LOL!! They have grown so much since they arrived, and they both just shed again. Would be nice if they were 1:1, but didn't know if it was still to early to tell at the moment? They are pretty much identical in size (as they are still growing I guess) so I haven't been able to tell through size. Why are Amyae so difficult to sex when the smooth knobbies are so easy?

What were the indicators for your judgement call Danny? I need to learn how to do it myself!! Any advice greatly appreciated. I have a pair of 2 month olds that I got from Rob, are your the same line as his, or are they from different stock?

Small pics sarah

Hey how old are they? Do you have a pic next to a $1.00 coin for size comparision.

Hang on...I'll try to take some. I don't know why but Photobucket only resizes some of them for some reason? Annoying I know!

Nice juveniles Sarah. You know it amazes me why my 2x females that are about 1 year old & my 1.5 year old male has more black markings & grey patterning. My other 2 year old female looks like yours, but my other 3 look so different - even the head. What happens if they turn out to be N. Asper?? I got the 3x from the same breeder & the 2 year old female from a seperate breeder.

Maybe I should post pics.

Here are some pics of them next to a tape measure. Yes, they are lovely animals. Post some pics of your four together so we can see the difference. Danny may be able to determine if they are Asper and I have another contact who specialises in knob tails who will be able to tell too.

Looks like two males to me...with the pics you just posted Sarah...especially in the last, they are VERY hard to sex.

I am pretty positive, yo Scott...post what you think punk!

They are still only half the size of my adults, so I was wondering if it is really possible to sex them until they are nearing adult size? They both look very similar in the nether regions to me, so I was either assuming both male or both female or too young to tell yet.

Any other opinions greatly appreciated.

Checkout this link from me & Ken for comparision.

I am calling the one on top a female based only on small hemipenal spine clusters. Looking at actual size of animals, it may still be a little too soon to tell for certain.

Thanks Danny, I'll be happy with whatever they turn out to be really, they are healthy active animals, but it would be nice if they were 1:1 :0)

I'll post some more pics in a few months and see if that helps any.
