I want to avoid problems before they begin..Also at what age do the differences between male and female become apparent?

In my opinion it would be safest to keep hatchlings separate from the day they emerge from the egg. That way you can also monitor each baby more easily, for example you'll know exactly how much they've eaten etc.

They will be fine to house together till about 6 months of age. But just keep a eye on them and make sure they are not fighting or you might have to take them out earlyer. But males should get along with the females just fine. Males will start trying to establish terrietory as they get older and will start fighting, or if the enclosure isnt big enought it will just stress them out because there is not enough room to establish any territory.
