Default Robust Velvet Gecko advise please

Hi All,

Wow I have to say I have just found this site and loved it so much I thought I would Join up straight away. I have just seen my female Velvet Gecko out and wow she has a nice round tummy. I have seen the male out lately but not the female except maybe a head popping out of the leaves. Wondering if anyone is able to shed some light on how long they carry the eggs? What to put in the vivarium for her to lay eggs in? If eggs need incubating or not, what to put the eggs in and whatever else may be relevant.

Any help would be appreciated as if she is pregnant I would like to know what I need to do.

I am so excited.

Ladygecko

Cool

Hi Ladygecko ~

A hearty welcome to Geckos Unlimited ! You have discovered the very best gecko forum on the worldwide web.

Have you searched for Oedura robusta here or on Google? Sounds like you have hatchlings on the way.

I have experience with Oedura monilis and O. castelnaui - both species lay eggs into slightly moist substrate - for example peat or coconut "earth",...at least about 2,5-3 cm (1 inch) thick

it is good to have such substrate in some hiding place, so the female fells safe to lay eggs in there

I think the pregnancy should take no longer than 2 months, my geckos usually laid eggs every 5-6 weeks

robusta lay and incubated exactly the same as castelnaui, so any information given on them will be pertinent for you.

For the nestboxes for my Oedura castelnaui I use a 1:1 mixture of Jurassic Reptile Playsand (from Jerry Bergosh) and cocopeat fiber. Add water till it is the consistency of a tart crust of butter cut into flour.

I use a pint-size rectangular Rubbermaid container with a quarter-size hole cut into one end of the lid.
