Default Strophurus c. ciliaris viv.

Next week we will be getting 1.1 S. c. ciliaris and made them a (hopefully) nice viv.
We are not finished yet, but wanted to share anyway.

We took a used 35x35x50 cm vivarium:

Cleaned it and de-greased it so the construction-foam would stick to the glass.

After cleaning we applied the foam to the background. We made it so that the edges would be thicker to create depth.

Then we added a (little bit to thick) layer of tile adhesive.

Later on we placed some branches in it to see how it would look. Here you can see that the tile adhesive is cracked due to applying to much at once.

We coated the whole background with another layer of tile adhesive and filled the cracks.

When the whole thing was dry we applied a mixture of acrylic based paint, sand and tile adhesive to finish it.

Then we put in the branches again, and glued them with hot melted glue.
The whole thing looks a bit red on the picture, but in real life it looks a lot like "red-rock" in Australia.

We let it dry for now and will put in a UVB lamp and a heat lamp. Some more branches, red sand and a rock.

Looks awesome! I am so jealous, this is a species that both my husband and I really want to get here in the future.

Thanks Andi! We'll post pictures when it's all finished.
We also have 1.1 S. taenicauda coming our way in March...

The vivarium is finished, this is the end result.
We are very satisfied with it. Now we have to wait for 4 days before the Strophurus ciliaris arrive.

That looks great Debbie but I would be very cautious about having the light globes exposed like that, I have all my lighting and heating on the outside of the enclosure as my ciliaris like getting as close as they can to the lights sometimes.

Thanks for the tip. We have other geckos with the same light bulbs in their viv, but they just never sit on them... Then we will have to find another way to make it work, cause we don't have any space left on top of the viv. Maybe we can make something to cover it.

Looks really good, can't wait to see photos of them after they arrive.
The S. taenicauda are on my list also. You definitely have great taste in reptiles and inverts.

I think that couple more branches and couple cork tubes (one tube under heating lamp and other one in cool part) will be good for them.
