Default Strophrurus ciliaris with a lump

this happened earlier this year, i assume from receiving too much calcium, i was daily dusting her crickets as it was still breeding season . I give my ciliaris 5.0 uvb daily for about 8 hours although i have now reduced that to about 4 hours a day.I did have another thread in the medical section but having taken a much better pic yesterday i thought id put up a new post to see if anyone else has experienced this with spiney tails.

I've experienced this with both S. c. ciliaris and S. wellintonae.

hi Justin

do you think the species as a whole is just more susceptible to it, and what do you think is the cause of it, one book written here in Australia suggested dusting every feed with calcium which is what i was doing i also had for a very brief couple of days used 13 w 10.0 uvb exo terra globes before the lump appeared, at first i put it down to the change in uvb but when i spoke to other breeders who had also used 10.0 no one had experienced anything similar as a result. Hope this all makes sense.

Strophurus are quite prone to this.

I know of another breeder, who several years ago bisected the lump as they thought it may have been malignant only to find it was calcium and the poor gecko died from the bisection.

thanks Justin that is very helpful to know , i have no intention of doing anything to them ,just looks unsightly, i lost the poor male today though he had a lump on two of his legs and could barely move in recent weeks.
