Well, the vet called last night actually…. I was informed that the culture sent out came back negative for growth after 48 hours of incubation. He still thinks it is a bacterial infection and wants to treat the problem as such (does this seem odd to anyone else)? I am going to be meeting with him again tomorrow and from what he said over the phone it sounds like he wants to lance the other joint which is only slightly swollen and possible re-drain the front leg because it has swelled back up since the previous incision has closed up. It also seems like the vet would like me to continue draining the swollen area after tomorrows visit because he mentioned giving me a set of needles. I don't know about all this…

Steve

This is all just my opinion however everything maybe correct - but I still would get a 2nd opinion - reason being sometimes the treatment is worse than the cure - I am amazed this wheeleri hasn't passed away due to stress & trauma. But then I can't & don't keep Wheeleri.

Good luck with everything - my thoughts are with you mate.

Wheeleri are suprisingly hardy little ones. At least that's how it's been in my experience compared to levis. I agree with Ari, yes it is expensive to treat a reptile with a sickness/problem, but it wouldn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion on the situation. Did the doctor say what caused or started this inflammation? Is the doctor giving you some anti-biotic for the swelling, or are you just suppose to drain the fluid every so often when necessary??

I am with you guys on the need for a second option, unfortunately, this guy is suppose to be the best reptile/exotic vet around. I don't know of anyone else in my area that would even look at a gecko…
