Default Wheeleri clutches?

Tried to search for the info, but couldn't find it...

How often do wheeleri c. lay clutches? I put my pair together over the last weekend, and they mated, *with gusto*, and was wondering how often to expect clutches. also, is it advisable to place them together a few times? i am certain they locked, but if more helps, then that's fine with me too!

Thanks in advance!!

YO!

Youīll get clutches every 30 days aprox. The female only needs one shoot at the begining of the season and then she will produce fertile eggs for the hole season. You can get 10-14 eggs from a single female in one season and thats why they droped from 4000 Euro/pair to 250 in a few years........
Good luck mate!

Thanks very much for the reply! I'm not worried about price, there aren't many breeders I know of in Canada, and almost certainly none where I live - I just hope to make them available - they're pretty awesome little geckos!

I'd put the male back in with the female after she lays each clutch of eggs personally

i agree with oli and put pairs together several times between clutches. once i see egg development, i stop introducing the males.

Why do you put them together again after the first matings? There is no reason, they are reptiles. Itīs not helpful to stress the female moore than once a season.

@ pitbullgeckos - that's what was recommended to me by a friend that's been breeding Nephrurus for over 10 years, and i'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. we don't all have to do things exactly the same. what works for me might not work for other people, and vice versa.

No we donīt,,,,,but what we have to do is to try to understand why we are doing it.
I have been breeding reptiles for 20 years and Iīm pretty shure what Iīm talking about,,,,,,becourse I have tried it. But Im learning new things every day.

But by all means, do what you think is best but take my advice and donīt go with the flow and do it just becourse som old man like me say so, try for your self and move the hobby of reptile breeding forward.

I love this quote - I hear a lot of people say - "But the big breeders do it this way" and when you try to reason with them, it's like talking to a brick wall - just because someone else does it, doesn't mean it is the best method out there. I personally work in the scientific field, so i tend to question methods a little more than some one else might.

Anyhoo, I appreciate all the additions to the thread here - To be honest most of my geckos are housed in pairs, so i don't monitor most breeding activity. Perhaps I'll see if she starts laying eggs (I understand it may be late in the season already), and perhaps put her back with the male after a couple clutches. I would like to get some eggs from her, but I don't want her to be unhealthy!

@ pitbullgeckos - i couldn't agree more. with time and experience, we all learn what works best for us, and what works best for us might not work at all for someone else.
