New female Knobtail (Nephrurus l. levis) laid eggs!
OK I know its not a huge deal to most folks on here but I'm excited anyway. One of my new (got them at the end of July) female levis laid a pair of eggs last night. Both look healthy to me, nice and white. She buried them at the very bottom of her tub in about 3-4" of damp sand on the coolside. It was nice b/c I saw them from below and could carefully excavate them vs having to dig around blindly.
They filled out (had a few minor dimples in them from being in the cage) pretty quickly once they were in the perlite. Hopefully they are good as I think they will probably be the last or next to last of the year. Now I guess I am expecting the other female to drop some too, she's looking quite full now compared to her cagemate.
For anyone that cares about details, her pre-laying weight was around 21 g (estimated, I weighed her two weeks ago) and post is 16 g. That seems like a lot of egg weight, 5g, but I could be measuring some % error here with the time that lapsed between weighings/feeding/pooping etc. This is her fourth clutch this summer anyway. I probably would have waited another year to breed her if it had been my animal initially but at this point the best I can do is feed her back up really well and hope she really is done for the year. As much as I'd love more eggs, I'd prefer a healthy adult female! I am holding off on breeding my yearling levis female, she is 17 g now (looks as big as the other two females) and it makes more sense to me to wait until she has a bit more mass.
