Default Update: Risk of impaction and other ?'s

I have one Leopard gecko so I feel I have an average amount of "know-how" with desert geckos. I would really like to get an Australian knobtail gecko and I feel that I would be able to provide it with everything it needs. I just had a question for the experienced knobtail keepers. Does using sand as a substrate pose any risk of impaction to these guys? I read somewhere that the only way these guys can really thrive is if they are on as natural a substrate as possible?
I'm not planning on getting one of these guys for quite some time, but I would like to collect as much info as I can so that I can make the best home for him that I can. Thanks!

Check this post: Photo guide to Australian geckos
David has posted pictures of Australian geckos in their natural habitat. There are a number of Nephrurus photos showing the ground where they live. They should put your mind at ease about sand.

Thanks! That does make me feel better about sand! I have a few other questions for you experienced keepers:
1. Clay and sand substrates should not be calcium sand, right?
2. Do they have the sticky fingers that make most geckos able to climb up walls?
3. Is a 10 gallon tank a suitable tank for an individual?
4. They don't need any sort of basking light just an UTH, right?
5. How often should they be fed?
6. Where can I get one of these guys that won't break the bank?

Also, if someone can find a good care sheet on these guys, please let me know!
Thanks!!

Sounds like what you really need to do is read through the old posts. There are quite a few different types of knobtails. They all require somewhat different husbandry. Do some research and then ask specific questions once you get to a point where you can't find the info that you need. But with 77 pages of knobbie info here, it should keep you busy for a while.
