Default Earliest breeding age possible

What is the earliest age you've bred or could breed the geckos? I have a female at 5 months thinking about breeding her @ 9-10 months I think I have read that thats appropiate. I have also heard 1 year, well I know the longer waiting the better but just thinking and curious on ur inputs.

Hey Knobfan, I'm assuming your female is a N levis or one of the ssp? You will often find that smooth knob tails can produce multiple clutches from the one mating, and will continue to lay eggs even once separated from a male. With this in mind, I would hold off until she is into her second year. They are fairly long lived species of gecko so you will have plenty of time to breed from her down the track.
Geckology and diplodactyla like this.

That's true, it's not worth losing a beautiful gecko to breeding before she is ready. Depending on the species, some Nephrurus sp. don't have ample fat reserves which can impact a pre mature gecko that is producing eggs.

18-24 months, has proven to be best. Females bred around a year of age rarely bounce back into healthy robust animals.

Thanks for all the great advice, it finally took Jordans last post to convince me though given the rep of the other posters I apologize. This is my holdback female I was* considering breeding at years 10-12 months.
