Semi-newb help with 1 old, 1 new C. variegatus
Amusing. A year ago I found a male C. variegatus on my front porch and have successfully kept him in captivity since. He's a delight to have around, always peeking out from under his rock cave, skulking around and hunting like a wingless dragon or an alligator, and basking on his sun rock. Tonight I thought I'd check for sure if it was a male or not and found this website. Not 10 minutes later, on a very warm humid slightly rainy night in the Mojave desert, i go outside for a smoke and see another on the porch. Female this time. She seems a bit younger but lizards don't have statutory laws...
I've introduced them, and they seem to be doing ok, but is there anything I should know? the two of them should have plenty of room in the desert terrarium i've set up, especially with the incredible rock i found that resembles a pyrimidic mountain from atop and a hollowed out cave-chamber system underneath, and i should have no problem whatsoever feeding them. they seem to be cohabiting decently, but this is only a few hours into their first date as it were.
and how would i go about getting some babies out of this new couple?
PS just a pointer: best way i've found to keep crickets alive is in a container with egg-crate pieces and a slice of kitchen sponge sprinkled liberally with sugar and saturated with water. i've kept populations for a month before my gecko pigged out.
