Default CA laws and desert bandeds

Do you guys know anything about the laws involving CA herps. If you purchase C. variegatus(the only common US sp. right?) from another state are you limited to 2 just as if you had been gifted/collected some in CA?

Thanks!

It falls under the same law. This is the same with Cal Kings and Rosies, and once there where breeder permits, now it seems to not be a big deal or uncommon to see these sold by Cal dealers/stores. I personally would not take the risk and loose my collection to the unpredictable fish & game, but would think your collection is safe. I would just not talk of it too much, and never let any go back to the wild and risk introducing a captive disease to the wild population or mix locals.

You're limited to 2 if the subspecies occurs in CA. If the subspecies does not occur in CA, it's not considered native so you're not limited (C. v. bogerti, Tuscon bandeds would fit the bill). C. brevis (Texas bandeds) are another option as they don't occur in CA.

If you're purchasing a C. variegatus represented as a particular subspecies, double check the ID before making the buy to make sure that the animals are indeed what they're being advertised as.

Awesome. So are those to subspp. relatively easy to find?

Also, you'd have to have some way to prove it should you get searched?
