Question Coleonyx mitratus help

A great friend of mine got a large order of Coleonyx mitratus for resale and is sending me a 1.2. The plan is me breeding my 3 and he breeding what he keeps then us switching babies for blood swaps. Thats the plan at-least... we all know geckos can have their own ideas on how this sort of thing will work. Sometimes I swear they are doing this... at us.

Few questions for people who have experience with this sp.

So in sticking with the plan I'm trying to consider how to house them. How deep of soil should I be considering. I have read they like to burrow hides in the wild. Will a mix of sphagnum peat and large orchid bark work for this sp bedding?

After qt I will be planting the tanks. Should I just do paper towels for QT?

Also will the females be good to be housed together while I'm growing them up?

I was thinking a 20 gallon long for the females and a 10 for the male. That work?

I have found some basic info but I don't see an in depth care sheet. Does anyone have a book they can suggest that I get?

Thanks for any info. I'm very excited.

I think good informations on this species (and also other Coleonyx...) are in the book "The Eyelash Geckos" by Seufer, Kaverkin, Kirschner.

the cage sizes that you mentioned are ok. In my opinion, there is no need for some huge substrate depth - 3-4 cm are enough. some half-cut coconut shells will be good for shelter
females can be put together, but you must check them regularly (if they both eat well and one is not strongly dominating the other).

if using paper towels for qt setup, you should develop also some moist places for them (for example some hiding cages filled with moist sphagnum moss,...)

Thanks!

One more question. What weight/age do people do for breeding with this sp? They are WC so age is not something I'm going to know.

this is not so easy to anwer, the size is more important than the age...and maybe the size differs between populations in the wild...I donīt keep mitratus (kept them once for few months), but C.elegans, which is somewhat bigger. but I would consider SVL (snout-vent length) of about 7 cm (2 3/4 inch) and more for C.mitratus to be "adult/for-breeding-sufficient" size, and the geckos should dot be too skinny.

Thanks! I had my friend pick me out some really different looking animals for the group he got in. Should be interesting. They will be here later this week. I'll post pictures when they come in.
