Initial Cepediana cCo-op set up

Posted 04-19-2011 at 10:13 AM by LLDG (Phelsuma cepediana breeding co-op)
Tags cepediana

In 2006, I was lucky enough to be contacted by Brad who had a lone male P. cepediana of breeding age. From my previous years breeding P. cepediana, I had only two female cepediana left. The co-op started with 1:2 animals.

The first year total production was 14 eggs. Surviving juveniles (into their first year) was eight.

The adults prove to be delicate in captivity but the hatchlings are so very sensitive that I don't even count them until as juveniles until reach...

First Attempts & European help

Posted 04-19-2011 at 09:50 AM by LLDG (Phelsuma cepediana breeding co-op)

I keep and bred P. cepediana in the mid 1080s with one wild caught male and various WC and captive bred cepediana females. It was my first attempt to breed P. cepediana.

After approx. four years, the resulting ratio of males to females was a dismally poor, 1:25.

I sought out European publications and keepers who could provide help. I corresponded with the German Phelsuma keeper Ralph Budzinski. He explained how he had better success with Phelsuma guimbeaui when...

Phelsuma cepediana co-operative breeding effort

Posted 04-19-2011 at 09:28 AM by LLDG (Phelsuma cepediana breeding co-op)
Tags cepediana

Since summer 2005, two U.S. keepers with Phelsuma cepediana agreed to start a cooperative breeding program.

Co-op goals are :
Increase the number of captive bred Phelsuma cepediana in the U.S.,
Establish husbandry requirements needed to keep this sensitive and delicate species alive, and
Determine incubation methods that result in a good ratio of males to females.

Last known ratio in the US by Christenson: 1 male for 25 females.

Aaargh

Posted 01-30-2011 at 09:13 PM by Sinosauropteryx

My internet speed these days is horrible. Can't even log in to any of my profile pages without being timed back off again before I get the opportunity to do anything. I am lucky to even be typing this entry, though if I am ever able to post it, it may yet be something that I was lucky enough to post. Not sure if that even made any sense.

I am going to be dormant for a little while. I will still post, but don't expect me to be around a whole lot.

Not much new with my...

Fan-foots are getting bolder

Posted 01-28-2011 at 10:48 PM by Sinosauropteryx

It has been a while since the last entry was made - not a wkile when it comes to me, but anyway... - and my last entry is still up. Oh well, I am done asking for someone else to post over my last entry.

Not much has happened so far, but there have been improvements. The two fan-toed/fan-footed (I call them both from time to time) geckos are getting bolder now. A few nights ago I saw one on the glass wall closest to me, and when I leaned closer for a better look, he (or she?) didn't...
