Default What Local?

I got cat geckos a few months back..
and i'm wondering how do u identify what locale it is?

i'm also wondering how u guys are able to differentiate different localities?

i've searched on the internet for more info; but there doesn't seem to be much information, and i've been reading through threads slowly..

but i thought i'd ask anyways

thanks for any imput

i also want to know what age/size/weight is a good age to breed?
I do have a male that i got a hold of from a different genetic pool.

but one breeder told me that if they are different locales.. they may not breed.
Is this true?
also for incubating eggs what are the best temps and humidity?

I know in one thread someone said 17-27C; for me i think that's a big range..

Most people think that the eye color and pattern indicate that they are from different populations, but we don't have field data to back that up. We are just making the assumption unless someone has hand picked some of these from the wild rather than taking the word of the collector or exporter. Third world merchants will tell you anything you want to hear, just to make a quick buck, or even to make things more expensive. It's just the way most of the people in that side of the industry work.
There are Johor silver eyes, green eyed borneo, Malaysian, Indonesian. All of these are common names mind you. If they look the same, and if you husbandry is correct, you can have hope of them breeding.

thanks lordoftheswarms,
I hope my husbandry is correct as they seem to be growing and have a fat tail.

I keep them in a tub system as tubs seems to retain humidity better.

i can only mist twice a day as i'm away form the house 11 hrs a day. I mist quite heavily tho.
cheers

Hi,
I donīt use RO, no UV, felinus are kept individually, terrarium size 70x45x50 cm, temperature cca 22 C (17-27 C), using the same temperature for incubation, use mist once a day, feeding 2-3 per week.
Good luck

Actually that's not quite true. Marcus himself did field studies in Malaysia. There's also been some other rather extensive field work there as well through the years. And on top of that, there's been some specific genetic work as well. Also, it doesn't take a real genius to look at the Aeluroscalabotes from Borneo and the Aeluroscalabotes from Malaysia to tell that there's a huge difference (not just simple eye coloration). Most of what is in the US at this time is considered "unknown" locale because, much like leopard geckos, nobody payed attention to the differences between subspecies/locale early on in the importation. And thus, breeders bred them together to the point where it is now almost impossible to find a "pure" leopard gecko. IMO, with the felinus, we have a responsibility to not make the same mistakes. In any case, I will continue to keep all of my locales separated. This is one of the reasons that I'm so picky about who I'll sell my silver eyeds. I'll only sell them to other breeders that I have confidence in to keep the bloodlines separated.
