Default Gravid female?

Heya, I was taking a peak at my cat gecko this afternoon and noticed she seemed to have an opacity in her abdomen. My girlfriend said that her leopard gecko used to look like this when it was gravid. Do the cat gecko males get prominant hemipenal buldges? Does this look like a female? Do you think she is gravid? Unfortunately I have not found a male yet, so I don't think her eggs will be fertile. Supposedly she was housed with a male a few months ago, so if they store sperm there may be a chance.

Thanks,
Joshua

Males have VERY prominant hemipenal bulges. They also stay MUCH smaller than females. Females can store sperm for at least up to a year. So, if she was with a male before, she certainly could be just now producing from it. A female that's not big enough, not healthy enough, or stressed too much can and will reabsorb her eggs though. So don't stress her out if she is gravid. Leave her alone to do her thing. Although calm by nature, they stress easy.

Hey Ethan,

The white opacity has moved caudally and there is now one positioned on either side of her abdomen. I am fairly certain at this point that she is gravid. I tried searching and couldnt find any information on incubation temperatures for these guys. I am currently incubating my crested gecko and mountain horned dragon eggs at room temperature (70-80 degrees fahrenheit). Will this work for cat geckos? I seem to remember reading that they have temperature based sex determination. Is this true, and what temperatures produce females?

Thanks,
Joshua

I usually keep them on 1:1 ratio by weight, perlite/vermiculite:water at room temp (the same temps as the adults. It seems to be better to keep them at lower end of the temps as high higher temps tend to hatch faster, but also cause deformities. I've found no evidence through the years of them being TSD. Good luck with them!
