I wait two years. I have actually been able to grow them the same size as a two year on one year, but they do not seem to mature any earlier if that makes sense.

Hi Brian,

Yes it makes sense to me, thanks for the answer.
Isnīt there any special weight they "need" to have before they get breed then? Or is it the age that is most important in goniurosaurus?

Thanks again for the answer!

I'm sure it's both, but I don't have a scale so I can't say what weight mine were at . I wouldn't breed a sickly looking gecko even at the two year mark. The hainanensis are easy to breed, but the females look a little worn out after the season so I think extra care is needed. They bounce back quickly, but they are putting a lot of resources into the eggs.

Be prepared for the metabolism to shoot up too. Sometimes up to 3X.

I'm sure that some females "might" be able to be bred around the 1.5 year mark. However, I've never wanted to risk it myself. They still seem to grow up until the third year for me though.

Hi again,
Okey then I have got the information I needed.
My female is just 1 1/2 year old right now so she have some time more before she can be breed. She eats great and have a fat tail and she looks really nice.
I just had that question about weight as my leopardgeckos I dont get breed before they are 50 gram in weight but then its the age anyway that is the most important then in goniurosaurus.
I know I read somewhere of someone that have breed their goni. at 20 grams weight and thats why I wonder, because my female is 1 1/2 year and have a weight of 20 grams. But I will of course wait, I dont have any rush, her health goes first

Thanks for the answers !!

Well if it's 1.5 years before winter you might be able to breed after winter. I'd honestly ask what other people think. I don't get eggs until around late April/May myself usually.

The one reason I don't like to use weights is that I think these are best fed more like Coleonyx. A lot of people feed these like Eublepharis. While Gonis can go without/reduced food especially in the winter they seem to do much better with regular feedings then a big meal then a fast most of the year. Some exceptions exist especially some very large old male hainanensis with very slow metabolisms which seem to almost not eat at all. These males don't loose weight either though.

Make sure to ask other people. I may not keep them exactly like others do. I know other people don't wait as long as I do for some of my other animals. I also had hainanesis start laying unfertilized eggs so maybe I am waiting a bit too long.
