Is lighting necessary for a day night cycle for cresteds? I dont just mean UV I mean a cycle for night/day. I have the terrarium in my room so the rooms light is always going off and on at speratic times. I have a CFL light for the day cycle pointing away shedding ambient light on it for a day effect, then it goes off at night. Is this necessary at all?

Special lighting is not necessary at all as long as the room gets some filtered light during the day (like a window on the other side of the room...doesn't have to be bright/direct light). However, if you keep your gecko in a windowless room (closet or basement) then a man-made light source would be beneficial to create a day/night cycle since no other light can enter that type of room.

If you have a sick gecko, then using a UVB light during the recovery period can be beneficial.
