my gecko yelled at me :(
so this has never happened before, but i was petting my gecko on the head,( he lets me pet him but isn't crazy about it and usually just hobbles away) but this time while i was petting him he yelled at me! i have never heard him make any noise before, so it threw me off completely! i of course started laughing cause it was adorable. it was like a high pitched noise I'm not sure how to describe it but it was pretty cute.

It was more than likely a sign of disapproval.
Try not to "pet" him very much or at all just enjoy his presence on your hand and act like a tree but as long as its not bothering him too much, do whatever you feel is best

For animals like geckos or small rodents - touch at their back, head or neck is like touch of raptor. So they rather don't like to pet. But handling them, is OK. It's showing, that you don't want to hurt, and can feel safely.

I would reduce the handling, too. usually if a gecko isn't happy being handled they'll try to get away. if that doesn't work, and they're still stressed, they'll "bark" at you.

I've have nubbins for about almost year now and he's never made a peep, i OCCASIONALLY and very gently touch him. ( i don't want anything to think i man handle him i understand the limits of owning certain animals and the lines between pets we play with an pets we look at) and he has never seemed to mind to much. most of the time hell just chill out or walk away. it was just out of character for him to bark at me.

maybe he heard something you didn't, or was otherwise startled by something else. possible he's also being hormonal? sometimes you will see changes in personality as geckos mature.

oh, and I hope you don't think I was suggesting you manhandled your gecko; even gentle handling will sometimes freak them out.Morelia spilota harrisoni * Liasis fuscus * Liasis mackloti * Liasis mackloti savuensis * Anteresia maculosa * Python regius * Gekko gecko * Rhacodactylus leachianus * Correlophus ciliatusPost Thanks / Like - 0 Thanks, 1 Likes
