Crested Gecko has weird spots on side? (Soft?)

It's so nice to be a part of the gecko community! I am looking forward to getting to know you guys more in the future, but for now, I have a question.
I've had Charlie (who is 2 years old) for a little under a month now. As with all of my reptiles, I am paranoid about every little thing when I first get them. I noticed a few spots on his side. They are sort of "mushy", but where it's located, he won't let me take them off. He always flips when I get underneath his arm, which is understandable. I also didn't want to pick at them too much until someone had any advice on what they actually were.
Any idea what might have caused these little spots, & whether or not I should get rid of them or allow him to? (I tried to research the forum before asking this, but I didn't know exactly how to describe this spots.... LOL.)
Thank you so much in advance! Sorry if this was a silly question, but I just wanted to make sure it was something simple & not something else.
