    Default Panacur Questions

Hello, my 10 month old crested gecko, Dune, has been prescribed Panacur by my local exotics vet. Dune is 17 grams, and has not had a fecal exam done yet. I told the exotics vet I saw a worm in her feces and they prescribed a dosage close to 1 whole mL to be given to Dune once every 14 days. I know the vet definitely has more knowledge about reptile treatment than I do, but is this too much Panacur for a 17 gram crested gecko to have in a 24 hour period?

Also I found it a little strange that the vet gave me treatment before even finding out what kind of parasite it was (I've read that a lot of parasites can look like pinworms) so I'm currently waiting for Dune to poop again so I can have an actual fecal exam done (I couldn't get her to poop again before the appointment).

Because of quarantine, I had to wait outside while they checked her out and they couldn't really show me how to give Dune the Panacur. I tried to give Dune the Panacur the day I got back from the vet which was the 13th but she isn't bitey. I didn't want to force her mouth open so I tried giving it to her drop by drop but she only licked a drop every few minutes and didn't really like it. I was only able to give her about half of the dosage and when I called the vet back for advice they told me to try again to give the full dosage in another 14 days.

Once again, I'm not trying to insult my vet or anyone else and I apologize if it's a dumb question. I am sure the vet wouldn't overdose a gecko, the amount just seemed like a lot. Dune doesn't even eat that much in one sitting and I'm just a little paranoid about how she will handle it. I just need a little reassurance about the amount and also any advice on less stressful ways to feed Panacur to cresties? Also I've been feeding Dune pangea cgd every day and 2-3 calcium dusted crickets once a week, should I stop feeding crickets completely while Dune is on Panacur? Thank you!!

In my opinion, the best way to check this with the vet is to act as if you're the one who's confused:
"I'm just checking that it's 1 Ml of panacur for a 17 gram gecko and not 0.1Ml".

    Good luck with him.

Thank you! The vet seemed pretty confident and i just got Dune's fecal sample in for an exam so I'm going to trust them and hope for the best.
