Default attendance of the plants

Hi,

I gonna keep some cresties in the near future and I showed my dad some pictures of vivariums.
I sead that they dont need special heat elements, just a low-energy light to make the difference between day and light.
He noticed that there were living plants in it and he also sead that such plants need special kind of light and special care.
Also he was talking that the windows that could evaporate. And that there were tricks to mend that.
So I would like to ask the experiences that you guys have about this subject, and if you do something special for the plants?

Thanks alot
Kevin

its true that many plants will do much better with MH or HPS lighting, but for small vivariums fluorescent lights work fine. my tokay tank does use a 75watt MH light. you can also get fluorescent lights made for plants. many plants do fine with even a basic strip light. my crested gecko tank has a pothos and a small palm. the geckos love that palm and it has held up under their abuse. they love to wedge them selves into the bundle of stalks. even with hides present the prefer the palm.
Minature (pygmy) Date Palm ( Phoenix roebelenii )

Also he was talking that the windows that could evaporate.

now i really don't know what you mean there. as far as moister goes a glass tank is best if you need to keep humidity high. i thought about keeping my crested geckos in my repterium tank, however that thing was a pain to keep humidity up. i use an ultrasonic fogger and a container that "dumps" the fog into the tank. the crested geckos love it.

they're fine w/ the thorns on the roebellenii? I've lost several pairs of work gloves to those things!
