Default extra toes

I had a baby crestie hatch yesterday which has an extra pad and nail on the last digit of each back foot, like an extra toe. I've looked into this and it seems to be getting fairly common in cresties - in fact it's identical to the extra toes in this post:
Extra Fingers? (warning *Lots of pics*)

My question is - has anybody proven this to be genetic/heritable?

The reason I'm asking is this is the 2nd hatchling I've had from the same parents this year with "extra toes". The first one was exactly the same as the above pics also, and as healthy as the rest of the hatchlings so I sold it on assuming it was a fluke. Out of the 10 hatchlings produced from this pair, this year, 2 have come out with the extra toes.

I bought the adults as a breeding pair in 2007, though I know nothing about their history so I can't say if this anomaly has appeared from them before.

It is said to be genetic. You can breed the ones with the extra toe, but try not to breed a pair that both have the extra toes, since it's a not wanted trait in crested gecko.

lol, extra toes on a gecko may not be wanted, but what about extra heads XD?
i saw a gargoyle gecko on kingsnake with two heads for 10,000$
its kinda stupid to buy it because it was said to die any day lol...

If both hind legs, and/or both front legs have extra toes, it's as good as guaranteed it's genetic. Spontaneous mutations would likely just happen on one foot, not on both of a pair. Both your breeders would be carrying the trait (het), if they're not homo themselves (visible - extra toes). Even if you breed them each to different, unaffected mates, you will still be propagating the defect - their offspring have a 50% chance of being het for extra toes. If your luck is really bad, the new mate might be carrying the trait as well, so their offspring can have extra toes as well.
Some people see nothing wrong with it, others (me included) wouldn't breed either of the parents just to make sure the trait doesn't continue in that line.

Thanks for everyones' replies I've seen how fiercely debatable this topic is on other forums and am now re-evaluating my breeding plans involving this pair and their offspring.
