Default Introducing a new Crestie into another's Terrarium

Hi All

I've had my Crestie for about 3 weeks now and so far so good. It has settled in well, has a big appetite and seems to enjoy exploring it's new home!

My Crestie is a Juvenile, about 12 weeks old and (from what the breeder said anyway) "appears" to be a female although this isn't 100% confirmed just yet!

I'm well aware that you cannot house two males together but i just wondered what the situation is regarding introducing another female into an already established female Crestie's terrarium, would it be accepted or is there a risk of the established female becoming terratorial and not accepting the new arrival?

If i was to get a another Rhac i would ensure they are of a similar size/weight but just wondered if there could be any problems between the two?

Thanks in advance for any info/opinions!

they aren't aggressive, if they are two females, you can keep them togheter.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

Ok, so even though the existing female has settled into the terrarium and is used to the surroundings, she won't be effected by a new female entering her space?

Sorry, i'm probably worrying unneccasarily but the last thing i want is for them to start fighting / getting stressed and then have to house the new Crestie in a whole new setup (which i don't currently have available!)

Thanks for the info Jake, I will ensure that the new one is quarantined.

Mine is currently in a 12x12x18 exo-terra (is that a 10 gallon?) as it's only a juvenile but it will be moved into a larger 18x18x24 in the new year when it's a tad bigger.

If i was to get a new one i will quarantine it in the smaller terrarium before moving it in with my existing Crestie in the bigger tank.

Thanks again for all the help people!

I would check and see what size the 18" by 18" by 24" is with the substrate in it. It dramatically affects the usable space, especially if you use something like bed a beast. Obveously paper towel doesnt affect a thing. It is reccomended to use 20g for te first gecko and 10g more for each additional gecko... You will want atleast 30g of usable space in there.

Default Adding Another Female Crestie

Hello,
Provided the two female geckos are of the same or similar size,
there should be no problem. They are not territorial or aggressive,
and it has been my experience that Crested Geckos are communally
oriented, and like the company of other geckos, even sleeping on or
near each other. The more vertical Exo-Terra is nice for them, and
providing a live plant is something they will really enjoy.
I have two Cresties in the 12x18x18 Exo-Terra and it works just
fine.
Best of luck.

Melissa

To be safe, I would clean out everything in the tank so there are no established scents from the gecko. So, instead of introducing a new gecko into someone's home, it will be like a new place for both of them. This is my recommendation, especially if you are not 100% sure of the sexes.
