Talking Baby crestie help.

I bought a baby crested gecko this past weekend from my local reptile expo, and I have a few questions. How can I tell if it is eating? I can't really tell is it poops because it is in a 76 quart sterilite tub. Last night I dabbed some CGD on its nose and it licked it off. I don't think it really moves out of the exo-terra ampallo plant that it loves. Please someone please help me with my new little monster. Thanks

just keep looking for stoles it's not going to eat much so you may not notice a difference in the amount of food you put in. (if you put in a cap full it's probly gonna look like a cap full in the morning)

This is probably a stupid question, but what is stole? He is about 2-21/2 inches long and he is in a 76 quart sterilite tub. Is it too big for him? Thanks

I would say its far to big, go for like half that size, maybe even smaller.

The tub is way too big for him right now, I would downgrade him to half that size as was suggested. Also, I see a problem with your substrate as well. Bark chips are a huge no-no for Crested Geckos as you run the risk of impaction and Bark chips do not retain enough humidity.

Downgrade the enclosure and put him/her on papertowel for 2 weeks to a month. This would be your quaratine period and you want to make sure that when he is pooping you can actually see it and make sure it's not too runny, discoloured, etc. After your quarantine period, you can switch back to a nicer substrate such as cocofibre/eco-earth with a mix of peat moss if you so choose. I've use cocofibre for years and have never had any problems with impaction.

Also, the person you bought your Gecko from should have told you that for the first week or 2 your Gecko will more than likely not eat and that this is NORMAL. Your new gecko is in a brand new enivornment, with brand new smells, noises, people, etc. It takes them roughly a week or 2 to adjust to this environment. Once they feel safe and are used to their new home they will eat.

You should also refrain from excessively handling the new Gecko for atleast 5 days to allow him time to de-stress and settle in. Only go in the enclosure to mist, spot clean and replace food.

I hope this helps you!

Cheers
Heather
