Default What size tanks do I need?

I'm about to start breeding crested geckos. I'm going to have two females in a 30 gallon tub. That will be the main setup. I will have another tub that will house the male in the off season. Also until the female gets comfortable and I am ready to start breeding. Then I will introduce male. What size tub should I get for him? Also when the hatchlings come out, I should keep them in a very small setup no? Something like a large critter keeper? How long should they stay in there? After that where do they go? How large should the new tub be?

Basically I just want to get an idea of how many containers I should have and what sizes they should be. Also do they have to be clear? I was thinking about making big mesh windows in a darker tub. Space is not exactly an issue but I'd rather it be as compact as possible.

Now I know how I should house one pet gecko, but when breeding I wasn't sure if it was the same.

Any input is welcome, thank you in advance.

20 gallon for a single gecko, so house your male in that when not breeding. Some people have luck housing the male with the female(s) throughout the breeding season, some prefer to introduce the male for a week then remove him, and adding him back in once or twice during breeding season.

Small hatchlings can be housed in Kritter Keepers or 6qt sterilite tubs, which are my preference, until they are 8 grams or so. Then they can be moved up to a 16qt tub or 10 gallon tank. Eventually adults should be in 20 gallon tanks or 64 gallon tub.

The tubs do not have to be clear, but it may be helpful for you to easy do a visual check of the gecko, and allow light to pass through during the day.

Good luck!

You can use a ten gallon for the male and for the babys use a large critter keeper for two. do not put two clutches that are a month apart together. The female will lay a clutch for six to nine months after mating even after you seperate them. The first clutch will probably not be fertile but every clutch after that will be. Make sure and do alot of research. Good luck!
