Assuming they are male and female, even if they don't breed right now eventually they will. And it's not guaranteed that the female will be big enough when that time comes. But they could both be male in which case keeping them together could lead to aggression and injury.
And no, in they wild they don't have anyone monitoring them. But your geckos aren't wild, and the way things happen in the wild isn't always safest or best. They aren't guaranteed a steady diet, safety from parasites, or enough calcium to prevent MBD in the wild either. But that doesn't mean we as keepers shouldn't provide those things. That's just my opinion.
They are your geckos so you may do what you feel best. This is just my 2 cents.
