Question Crested gecko questions

Hi I'm thinking of getting a crested gecko but I have a few questions first I'm thinking of getting one from Pangea it's the ultimate crested gecko set it comes with everything you need even the gecko they give you the gecko at 10 to 14 weeks old and give you a 18x12x20 tank I think it's screen now if I get it should I buy a large KK and keep it in there for like 4 months and then switch it in the big tank? Second I hear screen tanks are hard to control the humidity if so how do I keep the humidity up were it's supposed to be should I mist it more like 4 times a day?? Thanks in advance!

A kitter keeper would be a good idea since baby cresties are really small so it would make sure he is able to find his food with ease. Then you can switch him into the larger tank when he grows.

You want the cages to undergo humidity cycles where the humidity will dry out, this is natural - so it shouldn't be a problem you just might have to spray it a little more often.

Depending on the size of the juvie you end up with, a large kritter keeper or vertical 10gal tank should work till s/he is big enough for the Rzilla cages the Pangea package comes with. I use those Rzillas for all of my subadults and adults, I move them up into the Rzillas at about 15 grams.

I do modify the Rzillas slightly- I use hot glue to run around all the bottom to help waterproof them a bit better (I learned the hard way it doesn't hold standing water, but the hot glue is enough to the water from misting from running straight out) and I hot glue a piece of plexiglass over the bottom screen to help hold in humidity a bit better. Lowes will cut the plexiglass to size for free and $8 buys you a piece large enough to modify 3 enclosures.

I only mist once heavily at night and my humidity cycle is perfect, but I also live in a pretty humid area (usually 40-50%) so you may need to mist a little more. I also provide all my geckos with a shallow water dish large enough to lay in and humid hides made of damp Eco Earth or peat inside a plastic food container. So they have lots of opportunity to rehydrate as needed.

Overall I really like those Rzillas though- great value for the $ and how lightweight they are is a big bonus for my petite self (the 18x18x24 glass enclosures are HEAVY!)
