Default Rest In Peace My Sweet Little One....

I went out for the evening with my eldest son until quite late. I came home and misted the geckos at midnight...I went up yesterday evening to change the water bowls and noticed that my littlest gecko (2.5 months old) was gone. I tore apart her cage hoping that she was hiding. She was not. I contacted my husband and he told me that he had misted them (which he had never done before and was not asked to do). She was in a 5 gallon and you had to remove the lid to mist her. SHe must have escaped at that point. Before I went to bed I closed the window as it was freezing and windy. I found her last night dead between the window and the screen. She must have been unable to tolerate the drop in temperature. The guilt is overwhelming and I cannot get the image out of my mind. I wanted to pay tribute to her in some small way...Rest in Peace Biscuit...my sweet little one..may you climb the tallest tree in gecko heaven and know that I would have saved you had I known.

In her Sauna

I am sorry that I didn't protect you.

Oh thats so sad one of my baby geckos managed to escape the other week - I've no idea how and it was over a week until we found her. I wish you'd managed to find biscuit in time its horrible when our little friends die. Biscuit was really lovely

If I had known she was gone...if I had checked the window...she would be alive. The guilt is overwhelming...thinking of her suffering in that little cold space...It is horrifying for me.

You didn't intentionally do anything to harm her. You did what you could to provide the best life you could for this little one. I can only guess at the pain that you must feel, but I also know how hard it is to loose loved ones and animals. I've watched all three of my rats die and my grandfather. I think everyone and everything I love has to wait until I'm there to die, which is hard for me. I don't like to watch them pass but it's also comforting at the same time to at least be there. Please don't blame your self. Things happen. Horrible things happen all the time, more horrible, I think than your little one. There are people who intentionally harm or abuse animals. In my opinion you were the best gecko parent you could be to the little one. Keep your chin up!

So sorry for your loss.
Nobody is perfect and you didnt know she was missing.
It hurts, and makes us feel guilty when something like this happens (Inge and Mahatma , 2 phelsuma laticaudas, just babies ,I picked them up in June, and they shared a tank. Inge ate Mahatma!!! Made me feel like pure evil, but I had no idea that specimens THAT young and that similar in size could/would do this)
Try not to be too hard on your self, we all make mistakes!
Take care
Chrissie

Accidents happen to all of us; we blame ourselves and we carry that guilt with us...if we didn't we wouldn't be human. I'm sure Biscuit knows it was an accident and she forgive you. RIP sweet little Biscuit.
