Exclamation Help with Neglected Gecko

My bf and I bought a gargoyle (I know i'm posting in the crested forum but i didn't see one for gargoyles) about 2 1/2 yrs ago. She stayed healthy and well fed until the past yr. My bf has been busy with school and work and often forgets to take care of her. I noticed she was looking very skinny last weekend so i whisked her away to my house.

She drank a ridiculous amount of water yesterday but i can't get her to eat except by putting a baby food/powder mix on her face.

Has anyone taken in a neglected gecko before? Should i maybe try feeding her with a baby medicine syringe?

Could you post up a picture of her?

I would not try and force feed her, especially since she is eating some on her own. There may be some other reasons that she is skinny... she may need to be taken into a vet and checked for parasites, for example.

What is her normal diet? I strongly would NOT recommend baby food, it's too high in sugar and too low in calcium and other essential vitamins and minerals that gargoyles need. Repashy's Crested Gecko Diet is by far a much better food, with the occasional live dusted and gutloaded crickets or dubia roaches.

Do you know if she was being misted every day?

Hermie (we thought she was a boy!) about 1.5-2 yrs ago

Hermie now. It's hard to see in the pic but she doesn't have much of a belly and her spine is very visible.

I live with my parents at the moment and they aren't too happy with yet another animal in the house, so keeping crickets in the house is out if i want to keep the peace... also i don't think my mom will appreciate meal/wax worms in her fridge. Hermie wasn't too keen on the cresty diet they sell at petco before, but maybe if she gets hungry enough she'll start eating it.

She wasn't misted but my bf's room stays relatively humid... which reminds me i need to get the temp/humidty gauge i left there.

I'll put her on crestie food and let you know if anything changes in the next week or so. thanks!

If she doesn't immediately take to the Crested Gecko Diet, you can try purchasing a fruit mix from (well I only know its on Pangea) to sweeten the CGD and ween her over. Baby food is just no good unless you've got experience supplementing it correctly.

From what I've read, Gargs it seems don't really care too much for live prey- or at least from what I've read on other forums.

Good luck! Glad to see you're looking looking out for her.

I have a one year old garg...as well as several cresties...gargs really dont' care for live prey...your boyfriends gecko is very thin in my opinion...how she even lived without regular misting is beyond me..did he not realize that this is how they drink? that his is required for proper shedding and overall husbandry?
Just leave out fresh CGD, maybe even 2 different flavours..keep refreshing it and keep her misted...mist heavily at night up to 80-90% and then let it cycle down...

Hope she recovers well...Bella

This is my fat garg...
