Exclamation Crested gecko: Please help, very worried about crestie!

Today my oldest crestie, George, pooped on my desk and when I cleaned it up it had red in it (not sure if blood or not)

A little while later, my second oldest crestie, Wheatley did the same thing and it was also red.

In the past few days I have fed them mango mixed with CGD, and a couple of small locusts.

I spoke to the reptile shop I got George from and they said it might be that George ate some substrate (soil/bark) and strained a bit getting it out. Looking at the photo again, it does look a bit soily.

I know that George got some substrate in his mouth a few days ago. I had actually changed them onto paper towel but some soil had stuck to one of his logs and he got some in his mouth when catching a locust. I've been really worried about it because I'm fairly sure he swallowed some.

That being said, Wheatley is on paper towel and has no soil at all in his viv, and his poo looked red too.

Please give me some advice on what to do!

Best bet is to keep an eye on them and see if it happens again. Sometimes there could be something in the poo that scrapes them up inside Once they pass it, it should be fine (it happens to me too sometimes . . . 'nuff said). If not, they need to see a vet.

I don't think it's blood. It could be from substrate or mango or a combination thereof. Just monitor. It's weird that both geckos have weird color poo.

How old are George and Wheatley?

Some people keep young cresties on paper towels till they are older. Another thing you can try with locusts is to cut off the back legs at the knees and keep them in a feeding dish to prevent any substrate issues at all.

My 55 gram tailless crestie, also George, eats live prey from his feeding dish.

I keep him on cocopeat fiber substrate, never bark. I would think bark is too course and prone to problems if ingested.
