Default Will my geckos bennefit from pinkies?

I have 1.1 adult crested geckos, 1.2 adult leopard geckos, and 1.1 adult tokay geckos. One leo and one crestie are pregnant. Would any of them bennefit from pinkie mice? Particularly the cresties.

Nope,
Pinkies are all fat and VERY little nutrition. Keep them on a steady healthy diet.

I agree. Pinkies are completely unhealthy. All fat and pretty much nothing else. THey don't even have much calcium as their bone density at that age is pretty much nothing. It's like feeding your gecko a stick of butter

Pinkies contain on average only 5% crude fat! They are packed full of protein and their stomach contains a tremendous amount of calcium. They should not be a staple diet but should only be offered as a special treat and are great for gravid females.

Where did you get that info? I'd love to see the source. I've never given pinkies to my geckos as most people say that it is like feeding them a stick of butter but I have also heard of some breeders feeding the females a pinkie after they lay eggs and I might be open to trying it.

Never heard that one. But hey if you have a source paste it up.
I wouldn't think rat milk has alot of calcium in it.
Personally I'd never feed a pinky to any of my geckos.

Too much protein is very bad for geckos as well (especially protein derived from animals). And a pinkie craps about every 10 seconds...its stomach by the time you feed it to your gecko is likely to be empty. Not to mention, I can't imagine that the lactose from mouse milk is exactly healthy for an insectivore. Geckos are not carnivores like monitors or snakes. They are not made to eat pinkies. There is not one good reason to feed pinkies to your geckos. Period.

If you want to give your gravid/laying geckos a good "treat", try snails. Much healthier. Much more natural.

Yeah, those are very good points. I won't feed any pinkies to my geckos.

Feeder Insects
That's were I got my info from, very good site. Although i do agree with your points, the nutrients aren't insect deprived but pinkies can be very useful in gravid females, just for putting on weight, they should not be given that often !
