hiya, i hav some birds nest ferns and some pothos growing well in mine..it seems fine i also have some bromielads as well and some creeping ficcus, and some small palm type plants...cnat remember there name tho at presant ..they grow ok in this soil..all fine..make sure you line the bottom of your viv with well rinsed hydroballs as a drainage layer add a shallow layer of water for humidity and for the polants to drink and coverd this with a fine mesh on top to provent eco earth falling between the hydroballs, then add the eco earth on top packed down firmly... re plant your plants after washing them well to get rid of as much of the old soil they were potted in as poss to get rid of any nasty chemicles and fertilizer in them (preferably plant them in organic soil , planinnon fertilized soil and leave them out in the open without any fertilizers just water them as normal ..leave out in the open out of the viv for 2 weeks before planting them in your set up..this is to get rid of the nastys in there leaves and then re plant them in the viv and then your good to go..add your decor and animls last of all once the viv has setled for a few days...

Miracle gro also makes an organic potting soil mix that has no chemical fertilizers or perlite in it. I mix this pretty much 50/50 with coco-fiber, then add orchid bark for drainage and use this as the substrate over a hydroton drainage layer.

thanks!!, the first pic the plant...... i think you mean is the spotty one ..yes?? its a form of philodendrion (wrong spelling i think )...i cant remember its type name but Poison Dart Frogs Poison Arrow Frogs Dart Frogs & Exotic Tropical and Carnivorous Plants with Terrarium & Vivarium Supplies by Black Jungle Terrarium Supply do cuttings of it too and its pretty hardy plant to grow and will tollerat most conditions within reason!!! there are quite a few diffrent types of this type of plant around and all seem to do well in low lighting, warm conditions... like vivariums and damp soi too...they like it!!, the rest are other little ones i found out about ..on dart frog again..then searched on ebay for orchids and plants in the plants and garden section..also in garden centers for the same plants , clean them like i mentioned before with re-potting and the soil others mentioned above should be fine to use as long as there are no fertilizers...eco earth i find fine on its own tho and it doesnt become muddy....like other soild will..mix in some coruse grain barck to for drainage and whey hey!!! ready to get planting...bit fiddly to start with as i pinned the vines to the backing of an exo terra i (used aquarium silicone to sick dry eco earth to the foam backing..better for the plants to stick to and looks better i think..
