Default my new P. standingi hatchling!

So after patiently raising my unrelated trio of Phelsuma standingi for nearly 2 years, I am very happy to announce that the first hatchling has arrived. I haven't been this excited about a new arrival for a long long time. though this is a common species in the eyes of most, they are rather hard to come by in Canada, hence my excitement

here's a few pics of the little dude

Congratulations! Standingi are consistently among my favorites. Your hatchling looks fantastic. I can't wait to see the other one. Way to go.

very nice baby. Congrat ... I wish I had space for such day geckos. You are lucky. It's good that the hatchling are pretty big and feeding is not an issue. Sometimes hard to find very small pray for small species hatchlings. Have you seen any conflict between the females? Did they establish a hierarchy? If yes How did they do this?

Sometimes the females will get along, sometimes they wont...I had two WC females that were perfectly fine together in a 30 gallon xtra high. I separated them and put them in a large cage, then later re introduced them...it was a massacre...they would have killed eachother...It doesnt take long for one to kill the other...Phelsuma are extremely territorial. I had a free ranging adult female in one room...when another female would escape from their enclosure, they would get beat up and 'kicked out of the room (escaping under the door). Sometimes an entire bedroom is not enough room for two females.

This is crazy! I believe it but it would seem like they would be able to make due.

these two females were obtained as young juvies from different lines from breeders in the east of Canada. the male was not added until nearly a year later, i have never seen any aggression at all in this trio. stark contrast to my P. grandis pair. that male beats up his mate rather rapidly when she isn't receptive to his advances.

I woke up this morning to find the other egg's occupant pipping! of course i got some photos, but i will wait to post them until he is freed from the egg.
