Male
Default Female sperm retention

I had my lone female Phelsuma laticauda lay an egg at some point recently. Honestly the egg looks good. I am going to incubate it until it either goes bad or hatches. Does anyone know if Phelsuma are able to retain sperm? And does anyone have records of how long their female was seperated before laying eggs?

Yes they can store sperm. How long seems to vary between just a clutch or two to the whole season....Most I've had is 7 clutches of 2 eggs (all viable) from a female P seippi produced after the male had died.

Wow, that is awesome. I still can't tell if the egg is good or bad. Kindof looks bad but isnt molding or getting fuzzy. And I have no clue when it was laid. Thanks for the info!

I can back up PhelsumaUK's experience.

P. astriata : 1 clutch a month after male died during summer. 1 clutch the following spring.

P. inexpectata: 3 clutches since separation from male.

Hey, thanks for your reply! That is crazy that one of yours laid almost a year later. Awesome too though! This gives me more hope this egg is actually good. It has been in the incubator for a little over 2 weeks and still(knock on wood)hasn't gone bad!
