Default Food Choices

I wanted to see what everyone was feeding their Phelsuma. I'm also curious to know culturing techniques as well on live foods.

My current feedings are

*crickets(which I buy online)
*fruit flies-
-1 cup potato flakes
-2 tablespoons sugar
-2 tablespoons of active dry yeast
-some cinnamon-I am trying different amounts at the moment to see what works best
Mix all of these together in a bowl
Take 1/3 cup of dry mix, put it in a mason jar
Add a premix of 1/4 cup white vinegar and 1/4 warm water
Pour in mix and swirl. Let cool then add about 100 flies

This mix lasts between 2 and 4 weeks and produces more flies than I can use.

*Baby food-I usually buy organic fruit flavors-bananas, apples and plums, apples and apricots, berry mix(I don't have a jar at the moment so I can't remember what the actual flavor is) and anything with mango-they love mango for sure.
And I supplement with Repashy Cal Plus ICB at every meal.

I want to see what all is available, easy to culture, and what Phelsuma actually like before I get going on adding more variety for my geckos.

I culture fruitflies ,mainly for my Dendrobates as I finnd that baby Phelsuma soon grow too quickly to eat them. What does the cinammon do as I have never heard of this being used in the mix?
I use:
3/4 instant porridge
1/4 potato flakes
a touch of sugar
Mix it all until damp, the consistancy that you would eat and then add lots of flies.

The main part of my geckos diet consists of house crickets which are readily available in Britain with the occasional waxworm. In addition to these I feed the frit mix with vitamins once a week.

I have been considering culturing Blaptica dubia the Argentinian ****roach.Does anyone use these for their small Phelsuma species?

Hey, the cinammon makes the culture smell less. The white vinegar smell terrible. I think a couple of my cultures ended up smelling like dirty rodent cages(yuck) but the cinammon does help.

I have tried roaches with frogs before. My wisdom for you is to use some sort of feeding dish the roaches CANNOT get out of. They hid so well my frogs couldn't find them to eat them AND the roaches started eating my live plants=tank looked like crap after. And I had to gut the tank to get the roaches out. No fun.

I am sure that Phelsuma would probably love them though.

I don't bother with baby food. I use part 1 of the 2 part repashy and smash it up with mango and usually raspberry with some honey. They like it a lot.
