Default Mating behavior

Hi,
I am just curious about what my grandis geckos are doing these days.. I think it is some kind of mating behavior, but why do they do it? My male is walking with very stiff steps and jerking his head from side to side, and the female is doing something similar with her head plus making a hissing sound. Are they emitting hormones or something when they shake their heads?

Also, I think I walked in on them this morning when they just finished mating. How long does it then take until the female lays her eggs, approximately..? i want little baby geckos!

I don't think they emit hormones when they do their little dance. More of a courtship ritual thing. The female is not always accepting so when she was hissing she probably didn't want to have anything to do with the male. My Phelsuma pasteuri pair are kindof similar(although I have never heard one hiss). The male is always trying to get some and the female only lets him sometimes.

As far as length of time before she lays eggs-I am not sure with grandis. All 3 of my female geckos get on the glass on the front of the tank a week or 2 before they lay their eggs. This is weird but very nice because you can see the eggs through their belly(I don't know if grandis works the same?) but when your female looks like she is ready to pop and is pacing or searching around the enclosure she is probably going to lay soon. I did read that they hatch after 55-65 days at 82F. Good luck!

Thanks for always answering my questions!

Then I have to just wait for Elsa to really fat around the belly.. It will be interesting to see if you can see the eggs through the skin!

Deggeko I befriended you and ANKAN333 I have grandis and it will take about a month or less so be prepared!!!!!!! was your female licking herself down under? if they both are then yes they did mate and you need to give her extra calcium when she hisses it means she doesn't want to be bothered and if the male makes a chirp like noise it means he's irritated the head bobbing up and down and side to side is a mating routine they will do it when they show each other they are ready and the female has accepted him he will circle her and bite her on the neck hold her there and well you know what happens next.. then they will retreat to go cool down cause he is extremely rough on the female.... they will probably fight a little so don't be alarmed if he nips at her here and there you should be concerned if he tears the skin off of her body which extremely bad.. then in that case take them both out re-arrange the cage a little bit put the female in but have him out for about an hour or two then re-Introduce him to the tank so he's not as hostile and so it's under her territory so he's more calm with that fact .. this has happened to me and it's worked!!! Good luck friend anymore questions let me know!!!!!
