Default Giant Day Gecko (Phelsuma grandis) tail problem

Hello Everyone!

I recently went on vacation, and let my grandmother take care of my Giant Day Gecko. When the trip was over and I came to pick him up, I noticed that the tip of his tail turned black, almost burnt looking. I asked my grandmother about it and she had no idea. All she knew was that it shed while I was gone. I really have no idea what to do and I don't want my gecko to be in pain!

Thanks,
Ddeg1

Sounds like a piece of stuck shed cutting off circulation to the tail. You can eatheir let him deal with it(they usually will bite it off themselves as it is causing them some discomfort), or simply cut the dead piece off with a razor blade.(That means you have to catch him).

I would personally leave him alone and let him deal with it. Ive had it happen a few times.

hey man I'm really sorry to hear that I know it's hard seeing your gecko like that... first of all grab your gecko take it in the restroom turn the hot water on all the way this will help the shed get loose and the humidity should do the trick and if you can get some tweezers and take that skin off (that is if it is shed) the skin might just be dark cause of dirt or something from the old shed absorbing the dirt color. let me know how your gecko is doing.

Hey, be careful with the hot water. Don't burn the gecko. I've heard of people using shoe box sized containers with warm towels(not hot though). This will make the humidity really high.

Regardless of which way you go, be careful

LOL of course not run the water on the gecko!!!!!! It seems I need to make my sentences a little clearer and complete... take the gecko in the bathroom close the door have the hot water run on high so the humidity level rises in the bathroom haha yeah don't run the water on the gecko lol

This is more for the RARE time someone just shouldn't be allowed to have ANY pets-favorite little sayings about dumb

1. "You can't fix stupid"

2. "Looks like (he/she/it) fell off the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down."

Like I said, just for good laughs. Not directed at anyone here!

I'm running out of space as is. I have to save some space so when I finally have the timing right I can get myself into some P guimbeaui. You see my list of critters.
