Default P.q. quadriocellata: new viv and question about introducing a male

I haven't posted anything here in a while, so here is an update on my P. q. quadriocellata tank. It currently only houses my female. I am going to add a Ficus benjamina to give it a bit more foliage, but it is not anywhere near as bare as it seems in the picture. Most of the plants are small clippings and will hopefully fill it out once they start growing. More smaller plants and mistingnozels will be added over time as well.

I am considering getting a male and housing them together permanently. I have checked all my books, but I cant find anything about how agressive / selective this species is when it comes to cohabiting / chosing a partner. What is your experience?

And no, im not adding any bamboo
boo pol and adamkwas like this.

I can't answer your question on the quads, but excellent work on the viv. Great use of different woods/hardscaping.

But there is a perfect spot for a piece right horizontally across the front
I'd have to imagine if you provide them 2 basking spots and plenty of food you shouldn't have to many issues. The general idea with Phelsuma pairs is to add them to a new enclosure at the same time to avoid territory problems. I had issues with my male P pasteuri chasing the female around constantly/aggressivly..I mean they were speeding around the top of the enclosure. I took the male out for about 2 or 3 weeks hoping for the idea that since the female was less dominant before maybe she would claim the enlcosure as hers and not put up with his crap. I can't be sure my theory was right but they don't really fight anymore.

Lastly, I don't have experience with the species, so I don't know for sure how they will act.

Nice viv! I'm sure your gecko is very happy in that.

Nice tank! I wonder where you got your misting heads?

From what I have seen of these guys at friends houses they do not seem to be aggressive towards each other. I checked some books also and cannot find if it says otherwise as well. :/

greets from Münster!

Thanks for the comments!
I will try to contact the breeder and ask her, as she kept the parents in a 1.2 - trio in a terrarium about the same size.

@hexentanz: I am not a 100% shure, but I think they are from vivaria.nl . I bought the basic-misting kit a few years ago and I think they are all still from then. I have changed most of my system now though, but I kept the nozels. I like them alot, best ones I have had so far. But I need to install a few more.

@daggekko: I have read the same in general about daygeckos. Mostly they advise you to introduce into neutral terretory, but they always mention putting the male with the female as an alternative. I guess it might depend on which sex is more dominant.

That is good you've been reading up. I bought my P laticauda pair at an expo and took them home and put them both in the tank at the same time. NEVER seen them fight or seen any torn skin. Great pair. I'm betting since your not seeing any info on them being aggressive or not that they probably aren't likely to fight. The enclosure looks awesome by the way.

Would you/anyone care to go into some detail on the misting system? I've seen a few setups that include them. They always look great.

P.S. If you do get a male and they do fight, you could change up the enclosure by adding a couple pieces of bamboo

How is your female doing? Did you ever get a male?

I'm looking into picking up some of these and am trying to find more info on them- doesn't seem to be all that much out there!
